Most RC car enthusiasts are always looking for ways to make their cars go faster. After all, what’s the point of racing if you’re not trying to win? There are a few key areas that you can focus on if you want to make your RC car or truck the fastest it can be. In this article,
Power
The engine or in this case the RC DC motor. A higher quality motor will give your car more power and thus make it faster. You can buy brushless motors which are often more expensive but offer more power.
Ready Amps
The amount of amps your RC car battery can provide also has an effect on how fast your car will go. A higher quality battery will be able to provide more amps, making your car or truck faster.
Battery Capacity
While not directly influential on the power the motor puts out, if you’re using more amps at a time, your battery will die sooner. So if you’re overclocking your motor you’re going to want a battery that can handle it.
Friction
Friction is the enemy of speed. This comes down to the ball bearings and drive train. Reduce friction here to transfer more of the motor power to the wheels.
Weight
A lighter car will be easier to accelerate, brake, and turn. It will also be more nimble which can help you avoid crashes and take tight turns.
Aerodynamics
The shape of your car will also play a role in how fast it goes. A more aerodynamic shape will allow the car to “cut through the air” better and thus go faster.
Traction
Where the rubber hits the road. Choosing the right wheels and suspension is key. Rear spoilers and diffusers can also help to increase traction.
Wheels
These are the point of contact that transfer the motor’s power to motion. Different terrains require different types of tyres e.g. you’ll want wheels with deep tread for mud and gravel but on asphalt or for drifting your RC car, you’d use slicker tyres
Suspension
To tailor your ride to the surface you’re racing on, you’re going to want adjustable shocks that can be tweaked to the conditions thus allowing for maximum control and an easy ride. No one likes a car that’s difficult to handle.
These are just a few of the things you can do to make your RC car faster. Experiment and see what works best for you. And always remember, speed isn’t everything – it’s how you use it that counts!
